How Early Should Your Child See an Orthodontist?

Parents often wonder when the right time is to bring their child to the orthodontist. According to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), children should have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7.

Why Age 7?

At this age, kids typically have a mix of baby and permanent teeth, allowing orthodontists to spot potential issues early, such as:
✔ Overcrowding or spacing problems
✔ Bite misalignment (overbite, underbite, crossbite)
✔ Jaw growth concerns

Early Evaluation Doesn’t Always Mean Braces

Most kids don’t need immediate treatment, but early checkups help monitor growth and guide future treatment if needed. If intervention is necessary, it can often reduce the need for extractions, shorten treatment time, or prevent more complex issues later on.
